How to Convert MBR to GPT Without Deleting Files

I want to install Windows 10, where I am asked to convert the disk from MBR to GPT. I have three partitions in the disk, two of which have important data. And I couldn't do anything on BIOS settings about it due to the non-availability of the firmware option. Is there any solution without harming my data? Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

According to your description, I would like to share some information with you so you can better understand the process of converting MBR to GPT. Based on the different structures and techniques between MBR and GPT, an MBR disk and a GPT disk mainly vary in the supported boot mode and compatible operating systems. Therefore, according to my experience, if you want to install Windows, you need to convert the disk from MBR to GPT. And here are some ways for you.

The first way is to rely on a third-party disk conversion tool: EaseUS Partition Master. It can perfectly meet your needs of converting MBR to GPT without deleting files. Whether you wanna convert MBR to GPT or GPT to MBR without deleting files, you can apply this software to do so without deleting the volume or partitions on the disk. Whether you're a computer novice or a pro-computer user, you can use this software to simply convert partition style in Windows 11/10/8/7.

If you are still worrying about the loss of your important data, you can make a backup of them in advance.

Here is a detailed guide for you:

Step 1. Download EaseUS Partition Master and launch it on your PC.

Step 2. Go to Disk Converter, click Convert MBR to GPT, and click Next.

Step 3. Select the target MBR disk, and select Convert to start the conversion.

Note: If the disk you want to convert is your system disk on the PC, you must make sure the motherboard of the computer can support the boot mode of the target partition style. You need to remember that MBR supports BIOS, and GPT supports UEFI.

Besides the above function of helping users convert MBR to GPT, the EaseUS Partition Master also has other functions as follows:

Therefore, it is a good option for you to finish the disk conversion from MBR to GPT without losing data under normal circumstances. You can consider the helpful method.

In addition to the first method, there is a second method for you. It is to use the Diskpart tool to convert MBR to GPT in CMD. But you have to know using Diskpart will delete all partitions from your hard drive when changing the disk to GPT. So it is strongly recommended that you should back up all your data in advance and then restore data after the conversion process.

After backing up the files, you can follow the steps below:

Step 1. Type CMD in the Search box. Click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. You can use PowerShell instead if CMD is not available.

Step 2. Open the Command Prompt, type DiskPart, and then press Enter.

Step 3. Type list disk and then press Enter. (You should note down the number of the disk you want to convert to GPT style)

Step 4. Type select disk X (X means the correct number of your disk).

Step 5. Now type clean and press Enter. This command will delete all the files and partitions from your hard drive.

Step 6. Type convert GPT and press Enter.

The above steps are the second method for you. However, This method is unsuitable for computer beginners, and you must remember to back up all of your data before converting MBR to GPT.

In a word, compared with the second method, it is believed that the first method is more operable and easier for inexperienced users. Now you can try to convert MBR to GPT without deleting files. Remember to back up your important data.
