How to Do a System Image Restore to New SSD from Old SSD?

Now, I want to upgrade my old SSD to a new, larger-capacity SSD, and hope to completely migrate the system and all data to the new SSD to avoid reinstalling the OS. What can I do to restore system image to my new SSD from old SSD?

In this situation, you have two main options to choose from: use Backup and Restore (Windows 7) or use a third-party system image backup tool like EaseUS Todo Backup.

Restoring a system image from an old SSD to a new SSD is a very effective solution for upgrading an SSD or recovering from a system crash. This helps you quickly and losslessly migrate your system and all data to the new SSD.

Windows Backup and Restore have system image backup and restoration functions. Although you can execute this program to accomplish backup and restore, it also has some limitations, as below:

  • Only the backup and restore of Windows system disks are supported, not other partitions or hard disks.
  • The system image recovery process is complicated and needs to enter the Windows RE environment to perform the restore.
  • Creating system image backup takes up lots of storage space.

In comparison, a professional system image backup tool like EaseUS Todo Backup or Macrium Reflect will be better. The more suggested one is EaseUS Todo Backup.

This backup tool not only supports backing up other partitions and data but also generates backup files that occupy less storage space with its Incremental and Differential backup functions. When restoring, restore the backup system to the new SSD without entering an exceptional recovery environment. You can restore backup files to the new SSD only by executing a few simple steps. The entire process is speedy and safe and can minimize data loss.

The specific steps are following:

  • Download, install, and launch EaseUS Todo Backup.
  • Create a complete system image backup on a USB drive or other external storage device.
  • Connect the new SSD to the computer.
  • Select the "Restore" option, and select the system image file that was created before.
  • Wait for the restore process to complete.

Using EaseUS Todo Backup is a better choice for restoring the system image in an easier and smaller way. You can download and use this software now!
