How Can I Increase Windows Server 2012 Disk Beyond 2TB, Help

I have a Windows guest running 2012 R2. Its data drive has 2.4TB of space. I can't expand the original 2TB volume because the option is grayed out. I upgraded the guest's hardware version to 10, but this does not help. How do I expand the 2TB capacity to a full 2TB?

If you want to display more than 2TB of space in Windows Server, you need to change the partition style. There are two partition styles in Windows Server: MBR vs. GPT. Both partition styles support different disk sizes and boot methods:

  • MBR is suitable for hard disks under 2TB and boots from the BIOS.
  • GPT is suitable for hard disks over 2TB and boots from UEFI.

You need to convert MBR to GPT, and you can expand the 2TB capacity to a full 2TB.

Converting MBR to GPT is not a difficult task. You can use Diskpart or Disk Management to complete the operation. But both require you to delete the partition. So why not choose a safe tool? EaseUS Partition Master Server is worth your trust as an all-in-one disk management tool.
