Is It Possible to Fix EFI Partition Too Small to Push Windows Updates

One of my client computers, an HP running Windows 10, has a 99MB EFI partition. The client is unable to push any Windows updates as a result. Does anyone have a best practice guide for expanding the EFI partition? Or has anyone else had experience with small EFI partitions?

Yes, fixing EFI Partition is too small to push Windows updates is possible. The EFI system partition is used by computers that adhere to the UEFI(Unified Extensive Firmware). This data storage medium is typically an HDD or SSD. Users cannot operate on such a disk because the EFI partition contains the bootloaders or kernel images for the installed operating systems. Thus, you need effective and reliable third-party software that supports operation on EFI partitions.

EaseUS Partition Master is my best recommendation since it can allow you to perform operations on various hard drive partitions, including EFI partition, system partition, and OEM partition. Before resizing the EFI partition, check the partition style of your hard drive in Disk Management: If it is a GPT disk, you can skip to part 2. If it's MBR, you should convert the MBR disk to a GPT disk before further operation.

Part 1. Convert MBR to GPT

With the "Disk Converter" tool, you can effectively convert MBR to GPT without losing data. Here is how to do so:

Step 1. Download and launch EaseUS Partition Master on your PC before starting.

Step 2. Enter the "Disk Converter" part, select "Convert MBR to GPT," and click "Next" to continue.

Step 3. Select the target MBR disk and click "Convert" to boost the conversion.

Part 2. Extend EFI Partition

Now, you can refer to the following instructions to resize the EFI partition using the "Resize/Move" feature of EaseUS Partition Master:

Step 1. On EaseUS Partition Master, navigate to "Partition Manager," right-click the target EFI partition, and select "Resize/Move."

Step 2. Extend the EFI partition: Drag the EFI partition's end to move into the unallocated space. Click "OK" to confirm.
