Is My External Hard Drive Dead

I am an assistant editor, and one of our 10 TB drives stopped working today. I am not sure if all data are intact on this HHD. Is there any possible fix to check its health and recover its data?

Is my external hard drive dead? You cannot tell this by your naked eyes. You can use a few possible ways to check it out. To check the health of your external hard drive, you can run the CHKDSK command first. Here is the detailed guide:

Step 1. Right-click the Windows icon and choose the "Run" option; you can use the hotkeys Win + R as well. Type cmd in the Run box.

Step 2. Type chkdsk in the Command Prompt window and hit Enter.

Step 3. Now, the Command Prompt will start scanning your external hard drive. If there is any error, you will see it presented.
