How to Recover Data from Not Fomatted Micro SD Cards

I have two not formatted micro SD cards. They are a Microdia 512MB and a SanDisk 2GB. They cannot be recognized by my phone, and I am fairly certain that the problem is with the SD cards themselves and not the card reader in my phone. Can I recover data from these SD cards? I don't know if I can trust the data recovery software.
