My configuration is a Dell Poweredge T420. I tried to partition out a 300 GB partition (total size of about 4 TB) during installation. But the setup routines automatically split the remaining 3.5 TB into two partitions smaller than 2 TB. I guess Windows 2012 standard cannot create partitions larger than 2 TB? Workaround or respect Windows' decision?

If you cannot create partitions larger than 4TB on Windows, it is not limited by the Windows version but by the disk's computer configuration. This is usually controlled at the bios level or by your RAID card. The maximum partition size for a computer configured to boot with the old MBR style is 2 TB. To create partitions larger than 2TB, you need to convert the partition style to GPT.
GPT can support partitions larger than 2TB. And you can also create 128 primary and numerous logical partitions on it. You can do the conversion by Disk Management or Diskpart. To convert partitions successfully without losing data, use a third-party tool: EaseUS Partition Master.
This tool simplifies the steps and breaks the limitations of Windows built-in tools. It is a powerful partition conversion tool that can quickly help you convert MBR to GPT without losing data. Here are the simple steps to use EaseUS Partition Master to solve large partitions on Windows:
Step 1. Open "Disk Converter" in EaseUS Partition Master.
Step 2. Click "Next" after selecting "Convert MBR to GPT."
Step 3. Click "Convert" after selecting the target MBR disk.
